I'm a guide, I work in the mountains taking folks skiing, mountain climbing and rock climbing. I teach avalanche courses, rope skills, mountain travel, and seek to empower people to reach new heights.
I grew up along the central California coast, without a choice but to be exposed to hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing as a child. As a teenager, I began the life pattern of spending many weeks a year overnighting in a tent, with early backpacking forays into the coastal ranges of Big Sur starting me along my path. With great friends, my interests turned to scrambling in the Sierra, and climbing the beautiful granite near Tahoe.
A graduate of the University of California at Davis, I began work instructing backpacking and rock climbing to fellow students. Beginning as the intern for a respected guide service in the PNW, I now work year round taking climbers and skiers into the mountains to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and complete their objectives.
I most enjoy working with people, where the mountains connect us as we pursue challenges and new opportunities. Guiding ascents of the major peaks of California and the Pacific Northwest, including guided ascents of Mt. Whitney, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, Mt. Shuksan, and Mt. Baker, I am at home in the mountains. With extensive personal climbing experience from the summit of Denali to the desert rock climbs of southwest, with lots of mountains in between. I make my home in Mammoth Lakes, CA where I work year round as a guide. I am proud to be a cancer survivor, and knows of some ways that life can surprise you.
